Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to form the Questers and Strategists parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
